Sweet Lou Turns Sour

We've finally seen the Lou Piniella of old. And it only took a 15-22 start from the 3rd highest payroll in baseball. Before the Chicago Cubs' game Sunday afternoon, Piniella went on a frustration filled rant about winning. Piniella is going to pull out all of the stops if he wants to continue his Hall of Fame career.

Piniella is in the final year of his contract with the Cubs and has said numerous times that this would be his last managerial job whenever it ends. The Ricketts' family purchased the Cubs' before the start of the season and have yet to give Piniella any type of endorsement.

In Piniella's first two years as manager the Cubs won the NL Central division before being swept in the first round of the playoffs. Last year was quite disappointing as the Cubs finished only 5 games over .500, and well behind the Cardinals, while totally missing out on the playoffs. If Piniella wants an extention he must righten the ship quick. Perhaps this is just what was needed.
