In 1994, the Denver Nuggets, led by Dikembe Mutombo, became the first ever 8 seed to upset a 1 seed by coming back from a 2-0 deficit in a 5 game series to knock off the Seattle Sonics, Shawn Kemp, and his illegitimate children.
The very next year the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks renewed their fierce rivalry in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. Game 1 took place on May 7th in New York. With 16.4 seconds left the Knicks led 105-99 as the Pacers were about to inbound the ball. They ran an inbounds play for Reggie Miller, and his crooked teeth, who nailed a quick 3 to cut the lead to 105-102. On the ensuing Knicks inbound attempt, Greg Anthony slipped as Anthony Mason tried to get him the ball allowing Miller to steal the pass. He then calmly ran to the 3 point line and nailed another 3 to tie the game at 105. After John Starks missed 2 free throws and Patrick Ewing missed a putback attempt, Miller grabbed the rebound and was fouled. Reggie then proceeded to make both free throws for a 107-105 Pacers win. Indiana would go on to win the series in 7 games. The ending to Game 1 inspired an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary appropriately titled Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks.
