Spiderman Wins Indy 500 Pole

Helio Castroneves has captured his 4th career pole at the Indianapolis 500. Now he's looking to capture his 4th Indianapolis 500 victory.

Castroneves averaged 227.970 mph over his four qualifying laps. No one else topped 227.9 mph on a full lap. That kind of performance obviously has to make Castroneves the early favorite to take the checkered flag next Sunday.

Among those who will not be considered favorites are IndyCar darling Danica Patrick and perennial contender Tony Kanaan. Patrick finished a disappointing 23rd out of 24 during qualifying and was quick to blame it on "the worst car she had ever driven". That did not sit well with the fans who were just as quick to boo her for passing the blame on her lackluster outing.

Kanaan had an even worse time during qualifying. Kanaan may have been the first ever driver to lead the Indy 500 in each of his first 7 starts, but he's never won the big one. And he won't this year either. Kanaan wrecked early Saturday and never got another chance to qualify leaving him out of the field for the first time.
