The New Orleans Hornets have been sold. Majority owner George Shinn has finally sold his interest in the NBA franchise to...*drumroll please*...minority owner Gary Chouest. What is that you say? No big deal? Actually, it is.
Usually when a majority ownership is sold in a professional sports franchise, it means the team is possibly packing up and leaving town. Not this time. This is great news if you're a Hornets fan. Chouest is a native Louisianian who purchased a 25% stake in the team after Hurricane Katrina. Chouest owns Edison Chouest Offshore in Galliano, LA which is a thriving company providing him with a stable income. Chouest isn't out to make a few bucks, although I'm sure it doesn't hurt, Chouest's #1 priority is keeping the franchise in Louisiana. That's right folks, the Hornets aren't going anywhere except hopefully up in the standings.
In other Hornets news, the front office has been interviewing a number of potential head coach candidates. Interim coach Jeff Bower will return to the front office full-time giving way to any number of people. Among the list, Avery Johnson, Doug Collins, Lawrence Frank, Jeff Van Gundy, and Marc Jackson. As soon as a hire is made, you'll hear it here first. You know, after we read it on ESPN.
I think that is great for New Orleans. I'm happy they're staying. Thank you Gary Chouest!
