Flyers Avoid Sweep...Then Win Series

Remember how you promised yourself, and Gary Bettman, right after the Winter Olympics that you were going to watch more NHL this season and make more of an effort to get into hockey? Well I remember making that promise. And let me tell you something...I failed miserably. I'm not ashamed though. I'm doing like I always do. Ignoring the regular season, except for what I catch on SportsCenter, and watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And by playoffs, I mean the Finals and Conference Finals.

So did I know the Boston Bruins were up 3-0 on the Philadelphia Flyers? Of course. Did I realize Philly was coming back game-by-game to tie the series at 3 games a piece? You bet. Do I know how they pulled it off or which players were instrumental in the turnaround? Not a clue. And finally, did I watch Game 7 to hopefully witness the improbable comeback? Was it even on TV, because I don't know?

Ironically enough, Boston took a 3-0 lead in the first period of Game 7 Friday night, only to have Philadelphia score 4 straight to win 4-3. I can't make this stuff up. Like, for real. If it weren't for the Celtics, I think most Boston sports fans would be on suicide watch.

Having said all of that, we finally have our Conference Finals match-ups. It's time for me to care a little bit! In the East we have the first ever #7 seed vs. #8 seed with the Flyers against the Montreal Canadiens. And in the West it is the more conventional #1 San Jose Sharks vs. #2 Chicago Blackhawks, although there is nothing conventional about San Jose making it this far in the playoffs.
